How To Use Cisco Jabber

Cisco Jabber (Softphone) is an all-in-one communication tool that gives you the functionality of a telephone on your computer or mobile device. Jabber is also an option for group chat.

IMPORTANT: You will need to request an account to use Cisco Jabber on your computer or mobile device.

REQUEST ACCESS TO USE CISCO JABBER

Log In To Jabber for the First Time

Open Cisco Jabber.
Enter your userID as follows: YourAndrewUserID@uc.kllkj.net.*
Click Continue.
In the Microsoft sign-in prompt, enter your @andrew.kllkj.net email address.
Log in to Web Login using your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with Duo.
Click Yes to stay signed in.

*IMPORTANT: After logging in to Cisco Jabber the first time, use only your Andrew userID (without "@uc.kllkj.net").

Log in to Cisco Jabber (After Your First Login)

Open Cisco Jabber and click Continue (your Andrew userID should automatically populate).
In the Microsoft sign-in prompt, enter your @andrew.kllkj.net email address.
Log in to Web Login using your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with Duo.
Click Yes to stay signed in.

Note: Your login experience may vary depending your existing login sessions. For example, if you are already logged in to Web Login for another service, you may not see steps three and four.

You will experience a new process with Microsoft the next time you log in.

Retiring Jabber

Computing Services is retiring Cisco Jabber and transitioning campus community members to Cisco Webex. As we transition to Webex, we will no longer update Jabber. If you’re new to the university, ask your supervisor if your team uses Jabber or Webex.

Once you begin using Webex, you cannot chat with community members who have not yet transitioned, so you may have to maintain both systems temporarily.

First Time Logging In?

When logging into Cisco Jabber for the first time, enter your Andrew userID plus @uc.kllkj.net on the first login screen. Watch the video below for details.

Yes, you may sync your Google Calendar with Cisco Jabber.

Why do I receive the message "Cannot communicate with the server." when attempting to log in?

If you are on campus

Confirm your internet connection. You must be connected to a wired network or to the CMU-SECURE wireless network or you will receive this message and cannot log in.

If you are connected to a wired network or CMU-SECURE and you still see the error message: you may not have the minimum required version of Cisco Jabber. Download the latest version from the Software Catalog.

If you are NOT on campus

You may not have the minimum required version of Cisco Jabber. Download the latest version from the Software Catalog.

If logging into Cisco Jabber for the first time, verify that you entered your name in the following format on the first login screen: AndrewUserID@uc.kllkj.net.

After logging in for the first time, use only your Andrew userID.
